This is a space for moms, by a mom.
Meet Me
I’m Kate, the Mama behind “Home Made by Mama.” You won’t see my face here, but you’ll get to know me through the words in my blogs, guides, and emails.
I’m a new mama, a wife, a dog mom, a homebody, a functional fitness coach, a certified pre- and postnatal trainer, a former copy editor, a former Christian Studies major, a former drummer, a guitarist, a singer, a beginner gardener, a wanna-be 100% tox-free living guru, a realistic/formerly overwhelmed woman, and so much more.
I started Home Made by Mama to share all the bits and pieces of my life as a mom, and to help guide and encourage other moms to leave overwhelm behind and live a peaceful, simple life you make for yourself.
Let’s look at all the categories I write about:
Grow
Growing up, my dad always had a large vegetable garden. It grew from the length of our backyard to a 5-acre garden out in the country, to a now full-time homestead.
I’ve learned so much about growing my own food from my family, and since I live in town, I’ve adapted that knowledge to create a simple, low-maintenance garden that provides some of the food my family eats.
When it comes to healthy eating, I am a certified nutrition coach. I studied all things nutrition, sleep, stress, and recovery, and more through Precision Nutrition. As a certified nutrition coach, I can help other moms learn to fuel their bodies and, in turn, help their children learn to eat healthy without the overwhelm.
I also have 5+ years of experience working for a fresh-cut fruit and vegetable company, so I know a lot of helpful things about food safety and seasonal eating.
Certifications:
Precision Nutrition Level 1 Nutrition Coach
Precision Nutrition Level 1 Sleep, Stress & Recovery Coach
Move
The fitness guides I create come from my experience as a certified pre- and post-natal trainer and a functional fitness Coach. I became certified through Girls Gone Strong to train pregnant and postpartum mamas when I was planning to become a mom.
I write about simple ways to stay fit when you have minimal time and equipment, and I create guides for busy moms who want to move their bodies safely and efficiently. I also share my experience prepping for home birth and labor and delivery in general.
Certifications:
CrossFit Level 1 Trainer
Girls Gone Strong Pre- and Postnatal Training Specialist
Nourish
As an adult, I’ve always enjoyed being in the kitchen, but the moment I hit my second trimester when pregnant with my first baby, it was a like a switch flipped. I suddenly had the overwhelming desire to make everything homemade. Bread, biscuits, all baked goods…even my favorite packaged cereals! I wanted to make it all from scratch.
With very little experience but a big-ol’ desire to figure it out, I started researching recipes, trying different techniques, and purchasing basic equipment little bits at a time. Now, I make most of the food we eat from scratch, and I focus on low-tox and low-waste options to keep my family healthy and well-fed.
I made the mistakes and tried the recipes that flopped…so you don’t have to. :)
I also write about how to improve your body image and your relationship with your body through intuitive eating and healthy habits. We don’t do restriction around here. Deep health comes from listening to your body, tuning into her cues, and nourishing her with foods that feed yourself physically and feed your soul.
Clean Living
Another thing being pregnant sparked in me was a desire to cut toxins and eliminate most of the single-use products from my family’s daily life. Through research and planning, I slowly make swaps to eliminate single-use plastic, harsh chemicals, and other toxic products from our home in favor of eco-friendly products and reusable glass and food-grade silicone.
Mind + Mothering
As a mom, I know the mom-guilt, the comparison game, the shame spiral, and all the other mental B.S. the world heaps on mothers all too well. I write about how to protect your peace as a mom, how to parent gently, and how to ignore the jerks.
This is a judgement, harassment, comparison, guilt-tripping, and shame-free zone. I will never shame any mother for decisions they make with their children’s and their own best interests at heart.
Journal
This blog category is all about my experience. I write about my pregnancy, my life in general, and anything that is on my heart to share. I also share my heartaches and my frustrations. This is where things get real and I get vulnerable.
